Glorious Kingdom

Hey. You awake? Can't sleep, still thinking about Glorious Kingdom. You know how that guy at the store said it was just a "tactical simulation where you defeat enemies for gold"? Man, that's like saying pizza is just bread with toppings. Like, technically yeah, but it completely misses the point of why pizza is good, you know?

I started playing it tonight, and I was kinda expecting some boring tower defense thing. But no. First stage, I'm just throwing my basic "Stone Guards" at these little "Gloom Hounds" and barely making it. I thought, "okay, standard stuff." But then I got to the second stage and realized I had to pick between hiring more guys or upgrading my current ones, and that gold from the last stage was *it*. No more. And the enemies were different! Suddenly, these "Shadow Weavers" appeared that could hit from far away. I totally messed up that first run, lost all my guys and had to restart. But it wasn't annoying, it was like, "oh, I get it now."

It's not about just winning, it's about *how* you win. Like, I figured out if you save up and get an "Arcane Sage" early, even though they cost a ton, they can clear out whole groups of enemies that my "Stone Guards" would just get overwhelmed by. It's like a puzzle, but with little dudes fighting. There was this one time I had one "Stone Guard" left, and he had like, 2 health, and I thought I was done for. But I positioned him behind a broken wall piece, and he actually held off three "Gloom Hounds" long enough for my "Swift Scout" to flank them. I actually cheered out loud, haha.

And the little details! When your "Stone Guard" gets hit, he makes this *clink* sound like his armor is actually taking a beating, it's so satisfying. I didn't even notice the time. Looked up and it was like 1 AM. I don't usually like these strategy games, they feel too slow, but this one just pulls you in. Maybe it's because every choice feels so important, especially since it saves only at the start of a stage. You really gotta think.

I already told Mike about it, he's usually into those big open-world games but I think he'd like this. It's really good. Really, really good. You should seriously try it, it's not boring at all.
